The 9th of January 1922, the mayor of Llucmajor City Council, Miquel Mataró i Montserrat, agreed to erect a monument by public subscription in memory of King Jaume III (James III), last king of Mallorca who died in the Battle of Llucmajor in 1349.
The project was commissioned to the architect Joan Rubió i Bellver, and the sculptor Josep Maria Arnau i Camps (disciple of Gaudí). The bronze sculpture represents prince James, holding the fallen body of his father with a hand and raising the flag with the other. The piece was unveiled on the 18th October 1927.

Jaume III. Antonio López Reche. 2009
Recently I was approached by a Spanish bronze foundry on behalf of a local authority in Mallorca with the request for the creation of a model of the popular and significative sculpture to be used as a trophy. The request was for a 45 cm high reproduction which would retain a similar level of detail as the original despite the need to simplify some of it in due to the smaller size of the piece. A site visit was not possible and the work had to be based upon the images supplied by the client.
